Small Businesses Receive Taxing News

big news for small business owners 1099 K Infographic

Small business owners were introduced to a new tax form this year: the 1099K tax form.  Third party payment processors (think PayPal) are issuing these forms which show gross sales amounts.  Apparently, the IRS believes that this new tax form will disclose taxable income and lead to more accurate reporting of business revenues.  I tend to think that it’s going to create a lot more paperwork.

Cajon Drums

The Cajon percussion drum originated from African slaves. In the 1800′s, slaves from Peru and Cuba were used to load and unload crates that carried fruit, vegetables, and other foods from the docks. During breaks, slaves would slap on the front face of the crates with their hands and would thus produce the classic sound used in playing the rumba or flamenco music.  Cajons are often used to accompany the acoustic guitar. The impressive wooden box is used today in pop, jazz, rock, and hip hop music.  The Cajon is an essential instrument for any serious drummer today.

Marketing Giveaways

Jerry has always been involved in his company’s trade show.  Always thinking how to keep his name in front of people, he freely handed out colored sacks bearing his company’s name and logo.  Visitors to his booth could use the sacks to hold all the brochures gathered from his competitors.  He gave out lots of balloons, too.

Then he found out about personalized golf balls at GolfBox.com.  At the next trade show, he gave every visitor to his booth a golf ball personalized with his company’s name, telephone number, and logo.  Jerry figured that personalized ball would last a long time… as long as golfers didn’t hit the ball into the water.  And every time they picked the ball up, they would think of his company.

Reel Lawn Mowers

Every time I hear the loud noise from my neighbor’s lawn mower, I know it’s time to cut the grass.  I have around 9,000 square feet of lawn.  Being in the Northwest, I have to cut my lawn every two weeks.

I have a riding mower.  But with gas prices at around $4.27 a gallon, I figured I would save the money and get myself reel lawn mowers.  I love how easy they are to handle around my home; they can mow the tight places around flower beds and bushes.

I am so glad that we bought our Brill Razorcut 38 push reel mower with attachable grass catcher.   It’s extremely light and can be lifted with one hand; it’s only 17 pounds. And I can hang it up in the shed when I’m done!  Thanks for the great product!

Financing a College Education

The cost of college tuition is soaring.  Students who want to continue their education beyond the high school level will typically need some kind of financial aid to pay for tuition, books, and living expenses.

The best loans are from parents because the terms and conditions are always the most favorable.  However, in these tough economic times, a majority of households are struggling to make ends meet, and money for college tuition is not an option.

Another good choice is to seek out financial aid from FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  After you fill out the application, you will discover what level of federal financial aid you may qualify for.  In addition to a student loan, you might be eligible for a grant or a scholarship, which unlike student loans, you never have to repay!

Facial Moisturizer

Moisturizing is an essential aspect of a good daily skin care routine.  A hydrating, oil free facial moisturizer plumps up lines and wrinkles without clogging pores or leaving skin feeling greasy.  Formulated with vitamins A and E, a good quality moisturizer will protect skin from exposure to sunlight, smog, and pollution.  Nourishing skin with natural products made from marine botanicals is the best path to a glowing complexion and a youthful appearance.  This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of H2O Plus.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Venetian Blinds

It is no surprise that Venetian blinds are such a popular choice for window treatments.  They are stylish, available in a wide range of materials and sizes, and fairly inexpensive.  Versatile and easy to clean, Venetian blinds provide excellent insulation for both winter and summer months.  The horizontal slats pivot to control the amount of light coming into the room.

Did you know that one of the largest orders for Venetian blinds ever placed was to the Burlington Venetian Blind Co., of Burlington, Vt., which supplied blinds for the windows of the Empire State Building in New York City?  I read that bit of trivia on Wikipedia.

Trash Pump

Many homes and stores were flooded by storms this winter.  Cleaning up the debris left after the devastating tornadoes and floods requires powerful equipment.  The solution for getting rid of all the sludge and mud is a trash pump.  Solid material such as twigs, pinecones, leaves, sticks, sand, stones, and sludge would clog a general pump.  Challenging situations like these are easily handled by a trash pump.  They are engineered to meet the requirements of professional contractors. Learning Online

Guest written by our friend Gladys Fuentes

It’s amazing how much you can learn by going online. Whenever I need to buy a new product, I just type a search into Google, and I usually get all the information I need. I find reviews, information, and tips on shopping all the time. It’s nice to know what other people think about certain products so I can get a general idea before I spend my money and commit. I learn so much that I sometimes wonder about what people did before they had all this information available. I was recently trying to decide whether I should get cable or satellite TV when I found Cabletelevision.net. This site let me compare and contrast all the different services so that I wouldn’t get caught up in some of the common problems. It was nice to be able to get most of the information from the same place, and that I didn’t have to hop from site to site reading about all of the different things I need to look out for. It feels great to have the opportunity to make an informed decision.
